What happened to my video camera?

I just got this video camera for my birthday. We went on vacation, and I took 32 pictures and 16 videos. I was trying to read the instructions to figure out how to get them on the computer. I read the instructions and it said how to change the pictures resolution and the color and then it said about formatting the pictures. It just told me how to do it, not when or why.

So, I clicked yes on my video camera to format it. Apparently, it decided to either delete them all or something. Now, I can't find the pictures or videos.

So, my question is, did I delete them? Can I get them back? What does formatting mean on the video camera?

Anything at this point will do. I'm in tears and I need help. Thanks! What happened to my video camera?
Do not take any more pics on that card.

Formatting means erasing the card so yes, you deleted them. Formatting is worse than a simple deletion. They are probably lost. I'm sorry.

You can download recuva (free download) to see if the program can retrieve your pictures.

The only time you format your video camera is when you have downloaded everything to your PC.

Is this a hard drive or flash drive then put the card in a card reader and use recuva.
