How to put border on pictures without changing resolution.?

I go to put a simple black border around some images i'm going to post, and then the resolution changes so it's a little grainy.

So how can I easily apply (i'm using paint right now, it's not very efficient) simple borders to a picture.

And also, resize them quicklimeker.

I'm those two steps on paint. How to put border on pictures without changing resolution.?
ok so you are using paint. that is fine for what you are doing I'm guessing but will require some adding and a good eye to get your pictures centered properly. I would use two windows; one for openning your main picture and the second to for applying the border. First set your second window to a ligher screen resolution than your picture. if your picture is 640x480 then set your second window to (i.e.) 700x525 keeping your aspect ratio. you can use an aspect ratio calculator on the internet (link 1) if you don't know the current resolution, open your main pic in the first window and click tools/attributes which is the same place where you set your new resolution on your second paint window. next, paint the entire background to black on the second window then copy paste from the first window. drag it to what looks center or you can use some simple math to find that center. remember, paint tells you the place of your curser in pixels in the lower right of the window. After that just click once off on the black and save.
