How do i get 1080p resolution?

I have two Vizio televisions: a 47%26quot; 1080P LCD, and a 42%26quot; 720P LCD. My question is this: I have the larger TV set up in my living room with the 42%26quot; in my bedroom. I've had the large one set up for a few months now and i'm pretty happy with it, except for when i press the INFO button, the resolution says 480i, even on the %26quot;HD channels%26quot;, even though i have HD Cable through Comcast here in Chicago. When i play the XBOX 360, it comes in 1080p. Just yesterday, the cable was ran upstairs and i finally have cable tv on the 42%26quot; 720P television. I was astounded when some channels came in clearer than the 1080P TV! I pressed INFO on that tv and it said 1080I on some of the channels.

How do i change the resolution on my 47%26quot; to look as good or better than 1080I?

Sorry for the long story but i really want you to understand where i'm coming from. Now the picture on my 47%26quot; is just not good enough for me anymore! lol. Thank you for your time and your patience people. How do i get 1080p resolution?
Either the cable box on the larger screen is hooked up different or isn't set to automatically adjust for the higher resolutions or the TV is not set to adjust. Check the settings of the TV to make sure its set to some sort of automatic resolution or aspect ratio and that the box is hooked up via component cables.......then there is usually an %26quot;HD wizard%26quot; setup configuration for the cable box....depending on what type of box it is, you may not have this feature and actually need to change the input on the TV when viewing hd channels....check with your cable company for the setup instructs and if you actually have an hd box.How do i get 1080p resolution?
Forget the 1080p that's blue ray. Cable TV and the 360 don't put out this information. 1080i is what your working with... Dude, all you need is the 5 plugged COMPONENT cable from Best Buy and both TVs will look marvelous. How do i get 1080p resolution?
It sounds like your 47 inch TV set is not using COMPONENT OR HDMI connections from the cable box for it......

That's the only way to get HD out of a cable box. Channel 3 is not HD....

Now, if EITHER TV set has an ATSC tuner built into it, you can get SOME channels in HD straight from the CABLE line....

But if you want ALL the HD stations, each TV needs it's own HD box....
